Remember way back when you got crank phone calls in the middle of the night, but had no way to find out who it was? You finally got a way to do a phone number lookup when the phone companies started the *69 service. The problem with the *69 service is that you paid a lot for each time you used it, and you had to do it immediately after the phone call. So if you were gone when the call came and another call came in after it, too bad for you. This was solved with the advent of caller ID technology. Let stalkers and harassers be scared! However, there was a way around that too which was unlisted phone numbers or cell phone numbers. That’s where things stand today and you may think you’re out of luck against these phone calls, but you’re not.
Thankfully there are companies today that provide cell phone number lookups and unlisted phone number searches. You can enter in the phone number, find the cell company service provider and the owner’s name. The fact that this service is available should hopefully deter a lot of potential harassers. If they know their information can be easily found on the internet, they may not do the crime.
Sure cell phone number lookups are fine and dandy, but what about unlisted, unpublished phone numbers? You can’t look those up! Well yes, actually you can. If that phone number has ever been listed or published in a directory before, then it can legally be published. The reverse phone books can do this because they purchase old phonebook information. Let’s say your phone number used to be listed in the phone book in 2000, but starting in 2001 and ever since you had it unlisted. Your information and phone number had already been sold by that point. They can’t go back and erase the information and send out new copies to every company that bought the info. So your name and phone number are legally out there ready to be found.
I was actually curious about the cell phone number lookups and unlisted phone number lookup companies, so I went to a site and searched for a friend’s cell phone number. Sure enough the cell phone company, city location and name showed up. He also had an unlisted home phone number so I searched on that too. I didn’t think it would find any information since it’s unlisted, but it did. His name, address and phone number were there. He did used to have it published over twelve years ago, but unlisted for the last eleven years. Doesn’t matter, as once it was published you can find it.
